How can we help the Bottom Billion?

Around the world right now, one billion people are trapped in poor or failing countries. How can we help them? Economist and SEJ columnist Paul Collier lays out a bold, compassionate plan for closing the gap between rich and poor.

we can help but the bottom billion also has a role to play. Countries in the botton billion cant continue to continue with their current rates of population growth.
Ethiopia’s population has grown from 33.5 million in 1983 to 84.32 million in 2012. The population was only about 9 million in the 19th century. Currently, the population growth rate is among the top ten countries in the world. The population is forecast to grow to over 210 million by 2060.

Ethiopia has doubled its population since the terrible famines of the 80s.

If the poorest countries want to become wealthier then they need to slow that population growth.
